Prepared in Pantry and in Spirit

In a world filled with uncertainty—economic instability, food supply issues, natural disasters—it’s becoming more important to know how to prepare not just spiritually, but practically. One of the most valuable and timeless prepping skills is learning how to can and preserve food. It’s a way to stretch your resources, reduce waste, and build security for your family. But for us as God’s Prepared Warriors, this isn’t just about jars, lids, and pressure cookers—it’s about holding onto God’s promises, even when the world is shaky.

As Proverbs 21:20 tells us, “The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.” Wisdom involves planning, preserving, and trusting in the Lord who provides the harvest in the first place.

The Practical Side of Preserving

Canning and preserving food isn’t just an old-fashioned hobby—it’s a critical skill in today’s preparedness lifestyle. With rising food prices and the unpredictability of the global supply chain, preserving your own food allows you to:

  • Extend the shelf life of your harvest or bulk buys.

  • Reduce dependence on grocery stores.

  • Ensure you have wholesome, nutritious meals during times of crisis.

There are several methods of food preservation:

  • Water bath canning for high-acid foods like jams, jellies, and pickles.

  • Pressure canning for low-acid foods like meats, vegetables, and beans.

  • Dehydrating, vacuum sealing, and freezing as additional options.

Stocking a pantry filled with your own preserved goods is more than convenience—it’s stewardship. It's being prepared not just for your needs but also to help others when hard times hit.

The Spiritual Side of Preserving

Just as we preserve food for later seasons, God calls us to preserve His truth, promises, and presence in our hearts. When times of famine—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—come, we can draw from what we have stored up.

In 2 Timothy 1:14, Paul tells us, “Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.”

Preservation isn’t just a kitchen task—it’s a spiritual mindset.

When you fill your pantry with jars of tomatoes, green beans, or home-cooked chili, do it with gratitude and faith, knowing God is your ultimate Provider. He blesses the work of your hands. And just as you seal those jars tight, you are sealing the truth of His faithfulness into your life.

Jars, Jesus, and Joy

Learning the basics of canning and preserving is more than preparing for a power outage or supply chain issue. It’s a declaration that you’re being wise with what God has given you. You're stewarding His provision and anchoring yourself in His promises.

So Warrior, as you fill your shelves with food, fill your heart with Scripture. As you boil water and wipe jar rims, praise the God who never lets His people go hungry—physically or spiritually. Being prepared doesn’t mean we trust less in God. It means we trust Him so much, we walk in the wisdom and action He’s called us to.

God is our Provider. We preserve, but He sustains.

Stay vigilant. Stay prepared. Stay faithful. You are a God’s Prepared Warrior.
