Building Your Hurricane Kit – Be Ready, Trust God

Every year, the start of hurricane season brings warnings, forecasts, and often—panic. But as God's Prepared Warriors, we don’t wait for the storm to hit before we take action. We prepare early. We stand firm. And we trust that God is our refuge in every storm.

When disaster strikes, it’s not time to start searching for supplies or wondering where the flashlight is. Just like the wise builder who built his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24-27), we must be grounded—physically and spiritually—before the winds blow.

Don’t Wait. Prepare Early.

Procrastination is one of the enemy’s most subtle weapons. It lulls us into a false sense of security until it’s too late. But preparedness isn’t panic—it’s wisdom. When you build your hurricane kit in advance, you’re not only protecting your household, you’re also positioning yourself to be a blessing to others.

Warrior, start today. Before the skies darken, before the warnings are issued, be ready.

What Should Be in Your Hurricane Kit?

Here are the essentials every Warrior should have on hand:

Water – At least one gallon per person per day for 3–7 days. If you live on the coast this might be more days due to the history of previous storms and how often those Stoms made the light go out. I would plan for more days and possibly weeks.
Food – Non-perishable items (canned goods, protein bars, etc.) for 3–7 days. Same as above with lights going out.
Manual can opener – Don’t overlook it, get one! You will thank me later.
Flashlights & extra batteries
Battery-powered or hand-crank radio – GMRS, HAM, or NOAA Weather Radio
First aid kit – Include necessary medications and medical supplies
Personal hygiene items – Soap, wipes, feminine products
Important documents – Stored in a waterproof container
Power banks or solar chargers – Keep devices powered
Cash – ATMs may be down
Clothing, blankets, sturdy shoes
Fuel – Propane, gas, etc. safely stored
Tools & duct tape – For emergency repairs
Comfort items – Books, games, Bibles to maintain calm and faith during waiting

Once your kit is built, check it monthly. Rotate food and water. Test batteries. Update documents. Stay ready.

Spiritual Readiness is Just as Vital

A well-stocked pantry won’t calm fear, and a generator won’t bring peace to a troubled heart. Only God can do that.

Just as you prepare your home and supplies, prepare your heart. Spend time in prayer. Read the Word. Lead your family in trusting the Lord through every circumstance.

When the power goes out and the wind howls, your light doesn’t have to go out with it. Warriors shine brightest in the darkness. Speak peace. Declare God’s promises. Stand firm in your faith.

Psalm 46:1 reminds us that God is not just our shelter after the storm—He is our present help in the midst of it.

Be Ready, Be Faithful

Building your hurricane kit is more than a checklist—it’s a declaration: “My house is prepared. My heart is anchored. My trust is in the Lord.”

So don’t wait. Build your kit now. Teach your family. Help your neighbors. And no matter what the forecast says, remember—God is our refuge, our strength, and our shelter in every storm.
