In times of crisis, effective communication is vital. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us of the power of our words: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits." As God's Prepared Warriors, let's dive into how we can harness the wisdom of this verse to navigate crises, whether in urban or rural settings, with faith-filled communication.
Practical Side:
Clear Communication Channels: Establishing clear channels of communication within your community is essential. Utilize technologies like walkie-talkies, two-way radios, and communication apps for quick and reliable information exchange.
Now two-way radios will require licenses such as GMRS and HAM Radios. Make sure you arm yourself with information before diving into this without the proper qualifications.
CB radio is another way you can use for communication and licenses are not required for that.
Emergency Contact Lists: Prepare comprehensive emergency contact lists for family members, neighbors, and community leaders. Ensure everyone knows whom to contact in case of an emergency.
I would put together an emergency binder and have this information on a hard copy. Digital is good to have but in the event that you are not able to access it you have a physical copy. I would keep this information in a burn proof safe so that this will be protected.
I plan to do a video on keeping an emergency binder and how to build on on my YouTube channel. Make sure you go there and like and subscribe to the channel so you will be updated on when that video drops.
Regular Drills and Updates: Conduct regular communication drills to ensure everyone is familiar with emergency protocols. Provide updates and relevant information to keep everyone informed and prepared.
You should do this often, being prepared is a great thing but what do you do next? You should train with your preps. You should have a communication day. This is where you only communicate via two-way radios. Exercise your communication muscle.
Non-Verbal Communication: In times of crisis, non-verbal communication can speak volumes. Teach hand signals, gestures, and other non-verbal cues to facilitate communication in noisy or chaotic environments.
Spiritual Side:
Speak Life: Proverbs 18:21 reminds us of the power of our words to bring life or death. Speak words of faith, hope, and encouragement, even in the midst of crisis.
Let me be honest, in an emergency some people will not know what to do. This is why I say we must train, go through drills, in the event of an emergency. It will be our words that people will hear that will help them with their next steps. We need to be a leader. Train like one.
Prayer and Invocation: Turn to prayer as a source of strength and guidance in times of crisis. God our Father is wanting us to go to Him. Pray for wisdom, He is willing to give it to us freely, pray for discernment to know what is next, and pray for peace for yourself and others.
Trust in Divine Intervention: Trust in God's sovereignty and provision. Have faith, remember here at God's Prepared Warrior, you are in training, and we know that "Faith Is Our Shield". Also, know that He will guide and protect you through the storm, both literally and figuratively. My favorite verse is Proverbs 3:5-6 that says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and He will make your path straight".
Words of Comfort and Reassurance: Offer words of comfort and reassurance to those around you. Let your communication be a beacon of hope and faith amidst uncertainty.
God has called all of us to love one another. In John 13:36–35 - Jesus is speaking to his disciples after the Last Supper: 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” In John 15:12 Jesus also says, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” Also, in John 15:17 Jesus also said, “This is my command: Love each other.”
As God's Prepared Warriors, let's recognize the immense power of our words and communication in times of crisis. By aligning our communication practices with the wisdom of Proverbs 18:21, we can foster resilience, unity, and faith within our communities. Together, let's speak life, trust in God's provision, and navigate crises with faith-filled communication.
