“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
In the life of a Prepared Warrior, there is always something to do. Stock the pantry. Check the gear. Tend to the garden. Update the emergency plans. We are doers—intentional, watchful, diligent. But in the rhythm of constant preparation, it’s easy to overlook something vital: Rest.
Jesus spoke clearly in Matthew 11:28, calling out to all who labor and are burdened. His promise is not just relief, but rest—true, soul-deep rest found only in His presence. It’s a call not to abandon our responsibilities, but to balance our readiness with His rest.
What good is a full pantry if we’re too exhausted to enjoy a meal with our families? What purpose does a secure home serve if our hearts are anxious and worn down? Even the most perfectly tended garden needs a season of stillness to thrive.
God created the Sabbath, not just as a rule, but as a gift—a rhythm of renewal built into the fabric of creation. And if the God of the universe rested, how much more should we?
Rest isn’t weakness; it’s wisdom. It’s acknowledging that we are not the Savior—God is. While we prepare for uncertain times, we must anchor ourselves in the certainty of God’s care. He never sleeps nor slumbers. He watches over us even as we lay our heads down at night.
So Warriors, take a deep breath today. Step away from the to-do list for a moment. Sit with the Word. Go for a walk. Laugh with your children. Let rest be a part of your preparedness, both practically and spiritually.
Your strength will return. Your perspective will sharpen. Your spirit will find renewal.
Because when we rest in Him, we are truly ready for anything.
Let's Pray:
Father, Thank You for the invitation to come to You and find rest. In the midst of all my responsibilities and preparations, help me to remember that You are my refuge and provider. Teach me to rest, not out of laziness, but out of trust. May I lay down every burden at Your feet, knowing You hold all things in Your hands. Restore my soul, renew my spirit, and remind me that my strength comes from You alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
