Building Reserves for the Future and Faith in God’s Timing

************************

Preparedness is not just about survival—it’s about stewardship, wisdom, and trusting in God’s provision. Throughout the Bible, we see examples of God calling His people to prepare. Joseph stored grain for seven years to sustain Egypt and surrounding nations during famine (Genesis 41). The Proverbs 31 woman clothed her household in scarlet, ready for winter (Proverbs 31:21). Even Noah built the ark long before the rains came (Genesis 6:14-22).

In today's world, we see economic uncertainty, natural disasters, and supply chain disruptions. While we trust in the Lord for our provision, we are also called to be wise stewards of what He has given us. Investing in long-term supplies is not just about self-preservation—it’s about equipping ourselves to help others, to remain steadfast in times of crisis, and to demonstrate faithfulness in both abundance and scarcity.

Whether times are good or bad, a warrior does not wait until the battle has begun to prepare. In the same way, God's Prepared Warriors must take action now, investing in the resources needed to sustain their families and serve others in times of difficulty.

Practical Ways to Build Long-Term Supplies

The key to long-term preparedness is balance. We don’t hoard out of fear, but we prepare out of wisdom and faith. Here are some essential supplies to invest in:

  1. Food Storage

    • Focus on non-perishable items with long shelf lives: rice, beans, pasta, canned goods, freeze-dried meals, and grains.

    • Learn to properly store food using Mylar bags, oxygen absorbers, and food-grade buckets.

    • Consider growing a garden and preserving food through canning and dehydration.

  2. Water and Filtration

    • Store at least one gallon of water per person per day for a minimum of two weeks.

    • Invest in water filtration systems like Berkey filters, LifeStraws, or purification tablets.

    • Learn alternative water sources such as rainwater collection and purification techniques.

  3. Medical and Hygiene Supplies

    • Stock up on over-the-counter medicines, first aid kits, and prescription backups.

    • Have emergency sanitation supplies such as soap, bleach, baby wipes, and feminine hygiene products.

    • Learn basic first-aid skills and natural remedies in case of medical shortages.

  4. Energy and Fuel

    • Invest in alternative power sources such as solar generators, battery backups, and fuel reserves.

    • Store propane, firewood, and other heat sources for cooking and warmth.

    • Have rechargeable batteries and alternative lighting options like oil lamps or solar lights.

  5. Security and Self-Defense

    • Ensure your home is secure with proper locks, alarms, and lighting.

    • Consider personal protection based on your beliefs and laws in your area.

    • Train in self-defense and situational awareness to stay safe.

  6. Financial Stability

    • Have an emergency cash reserve in case of banking disruptions.

    • Keep important documents secure in waterproof and fireproof containers.

    • Learn barter skills in case of economic collapse or shortages.

The Spiritual Side of Long-Term Preparedness

While practical preparedness is crucial, spiritual readiness is just as important. The Bible reminds us not to store up treasures on earth (Matthew 6:19-21) but to invest in the kingdom of God. However, this does not mean neglecting wise stewardship. Instead, we prepare with the right heart—one of trust, not fear.

  1. Trusting in God's Provision

    • Psalm 37:25 says, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.”

    • We must remember that while we prepare, our ultimate provision comes from the Lord.

  2. Avoiding Fear and Hoarding

    • 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

    • We do not hoard selfishly, but we prepare with generosity, ready to help others in need.

  3. Being Ready to Serve

    • 1 Peter 4:10 encourages us: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

    • Preparedness allows us to be a light in the darkness, offering aid to those who are struggling.

God’s Prepared Warriors are called to be vigilant, wise, and faithful. Investing in long-term supplies is not about living in fear—it is about honoring God by stewarding our resources well. When we prepare in faith, we are positioned to withstand hardships, bless others, and stand firm in turbulent times.

Take action today. Store wisely, trust in God’s timing, and walk in faith knowing that He is our ultimate source of provision. Let us be ready not just for the challenges ahead, but for the opportunities to shine as a beacon of hope in a troubled world.
