National Preparedness Month: A Call to Action for God's Prepared Warriors

As we step into September, we are reminded of an important focus—National Preparedness Month. While this month serves as a nationwide reminder to prepare for disasters, it's also a powerful wake-up call for us as God’s Prepared Warriors.

Preparedness isn’t just a secular concept; it's deeply rooted in both practical wisdom and spiritual preparedness. Let’s explore why this month should hold significance for all of us and how we can align our preparedness in both practical and spiritual terms.

The Practical Importance of Preparedness

We live in an unpredictable world where natural disasters, economic shifts, and even personal crises can happen at any moment. National Preparedness Month was established to help people, families, and communities get ready for such unforeseen events. Whether it’s a hurricane, wildfire, pandemic, or any other emergency, having a plan in place can be the difference between chaos and order, between safety and harm.

Here are some practical steps every Prepared Warrior should consider:

  • Create an Emergency Plan: Know where you’ll go and what you’ll do in case of an emergency. This includes communication plans with family members and knowing your local emergency procedures.

  • Build an Emergency Kit: Having essential supplies, such as water, non-perishable food, first-aid supplies, flashlights, and extra batteries, can keep you and your family safe for a few days if you're cut off from assistance.

  • Stay Informed: Know the potential risks in your area, whether it be weather-related, man-made, or other crises. Stay updated through local alerts and emergency notifications.

The truth is, physical preparedness can save lives, reduce the impact of disasters, and empower communities. And as God's Prepared Warriors, we are called to be good stewards of the resources and lives we've been entrusted with. Failing to prepare is essentially preparing to fail.

The Spiritual Call to Preparedness

While practical preparedness is crucial, we also know that spiritual preparedness is equally vital. Being prepared physically without spiritual readiness leaves us vulnerable in another, often more dangerous, way.

In Matthew 24:44 (NLT), Jesus says: "You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected."

This verse isn't just about Christ's return—it serves as a reminder to live in a state of spiritual readiness at all times. We never know what tomorrow may bring, but we can be spiritually prepared by:

  • Staying Rooted in Prayer: Our communication with God is our lifeline. Prayer isn't just an emergency exit; it's a constant source of guidance, strength, and peace. Pray not only for safety but also for wisdom to make good decisions when times get tough.

  • Diving Deep into God’s Word: Scripture is a treasure trove of wisdom. It equips us with spiritual tools and provides answers in moments of fear and uncertainty. The Word of God is described as a light to our path (Psalm 119:105), guiding us even when the way forward seems dark.

  • Strengthening Our Faith: In moments of crisis, fear and doubt can creep in. But as Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT), "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." Our faith is our shield—holding us steady when the world around us seems to crumble.

Why National Preparedness Month Matters to Us

National Preparedness Month is not just a time to reflect on the world’s uncertainties but also to remember our calling as God’s Prepared Warriors. This month gives us a chance to prepare our hearts and homes, reminding us that both physical and spiritual preparedness are essential to thriving in a world full of challenges.

We should remember that our God is a God of order, not chaos (1 Corinthians 14:33), and He calls us to reflect that order in our lives. When we prepare—whether that means packing an emergency kit or daily praying for strength and wisdom—we honor His design for us to live wisely, fully, and prepared.

Preparedness Is a Lifestyle

As God’s Prepared Warriors, we recognize that preparedness isn't just for National Preparedness Month—it's a lifestyle, one that ensures we are ready for whatever comes our way, whether in this world or the next. Our goal is to live each day fully prepared, with our hearts secure in the Lord and our minds ready for whatever lies ahead.

As September unfolds, let us embrace this month not out of fear but out of wisdom and faith, trusting in God’s guidance while taking responsible, proactive steps to protect ourselves and our families. Let’s make preparedness—both practical and spiritual—a key part of our walk as God’s Prepared Warriors.

Stay vigilant. Stay prepared. Faith is always our shield, and God is our Mighty Fortress!
