Practical Tips for Storing Emergency Supplies

godspreparedwarrio

In times of uncertainty, it is crucial for God's Prepared Warriors to be equipped and ready for any emergency. Proverbs 21:20 reminds us of the wisdom in preparation: "The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down." This verse not only emphasizes the importance of being prudent with our resources but also encourages us to store supplies wisely for future needs. In this blog, we will explore both practical tips for storing emergency supplies and the spiritual significance of being prepared.

Practical Tips for Storing Emergency Supplies

1. Create a Storage Plan

Begin by assessing your storage space and creating a plan. Determine the most suitable locations in your home where you can store supplies without causing clutter. Consider spaces such as basements, closets, or under beds. Ensure these areas are cool, dry, and free from pests.

2. Stockpile Essential Items

Focus on essential items that you and your family would need during an emergency. These include:

  • Non-perishable foods: Canned goods, dried beans, rice, pasta, and freeze-dried meals.

  • Water: Store at least one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days.

  • First aid supplies: Bandages, antiseptics, medications, and any necessary medical equipment.

  • Sanitation items: Toilet paper, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies.

  • Tools and equipment: Flashlights, batteries, multi-tools, and a manual can opener.

3. Rotate Supplies Regularly

To ensure that your supplies remain fresh and usable, implement a rotation system. Check expiration dates regularly and use the oldest items first. Replace items as they are used to maintain a consistent stockpile.

  • I used to work for a grocery store for many years and we were taught about rotation in this way; FIFO, which means First In, First Out. Ensuring that your items are in rotation.

4. Organize for Accessibility

Arrange your supplies in a way that allows easy access during an emergency. Use clear, labeled bins to store items and keep an inventory list to track what you have and what you may need to replenish.

5. Prepare a "Go Bag"

In addition to storing supplies at home, prepare a "go bag" for each family member. This bag should contain essential items such as:

  • Personal identification

  • Medications

  • Basic hygiene products

  • Non-perishable snacks

  • A flashlight and batteries

  • A change of clothes and sturdy shoes

  • Water

The Spiritual Side of Storing Emergency Supplies

While practical preparation is essential, it is equally important to consider the spiritual aspect of preparedness. Proverbs 21:20 teaches us that wise preparation is a reflection of our trust in God's provision and our stewardship of the resources He has entrusted to us.

Trusting in God's Provision

Storing emergency supplies is an act of faith, acknowledging that God provides for our needs. By being prepared, we demonstrate our trust in His guidance and care. Just as Joseph prepared Egypt for seven years of famine (Genesis 41:48-49), we, too, can prepare for unforeseen circumstances with confidence in God's provision.

Being a Blessing to Others

Preparedness allows us to be a blessing to others in times of crisis. By storing extra supplies, we can extend help and support to those in need, reflecting God's love and compassion. Proverbs 11:25 reminds us, "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed."

Building a Community of Preparedness

Encourage your family, friends, and community to also be prepared. Share your knowledge and resources with others, fostering a sense of unity and mutual support. Together, we can face challenges with strength and faith, knowing that we are not alone.

As God's Prepared Warriors, it is our responsibility to be ready for whatever comes our way. By following practical tips for storing emergency supplies and embracing the spiritual significance of preparedness, we can ensure the safety and well-being of our families and communities. Remember, wise preparation is not just about survival; it is about trusting in God's provision and being a source of hope and help to others in times of need.

Let us take to heart the wisdom of Proverbs 21:20 and be diligent in our efforts to prepare, both practically and spiritually. Together, we can face any challenge with confidence, knowing that God is with us every step of the way.
