Introduction: The Calm Before the Storm

In today’s world, disasters can strike in an instant. From tornados and hurricanes to flash floods and wildfires, weather events are increasingly intense and unpredictable. As God’s Prepared Warriors, we’re called not only to be spiritually alert, but also practically prepared. Staying informed is not fear-based—it's wisdom in action.

Technology has become a powerful tool in the hands of those who know how to use it. With the right alerts, devices, and apps, we can act quickly, safeguard our families, and even help others. But just as we stay tuned in to emergency broadcasts, we must stay attuned to the voice of the Holy Spirit, who gives us guidance, peace, and direction when storms come.

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1

Let’s talk about how we stay alert both in the natural and the spiritual.

Practical Side: Staying Informed Through Technology

Being informed means being ready. You don’t need to be a weather expert—you just need the right tools and know how to use them. Here's a list of helpful technologies and devices every Warrior should be familiar with.

1. NOAA Weather Radio

A NOAA Weather Radio is a non-negotiable. It broadcasts continuous weather updates straight from the National Weather Service, even when internet and cell towers fail.

  • Set it to your county or region for targeted alerts

  • Make sure you chose one that is rechargeable and solar. I will place a link of one I have found.

  • You can recieve this channel on a Short Wave Emergancy Radio. (I will have a link below)

  • You can also receive NOAA Weather on a GMRS Radio and a Ham Radio.

2. Weather Apps on Your Smartphone

Smartphones give us real-time alerts—make use of them!

  • NOAA Weather App

  • MyRadar

  • AccuWeather

  • The Weather Channel App

  • Emergency: Alerts by the American Red Cross

Be sure to enable emergency alerts in your phone settings so you’re notified instantly.

3. Communication Devices

Power goes out. Cell towers drop. That’s why alternative communications are vital.

  • GMRS Radios – Great for local neighborhood or family comms. Requires a License.

  • Ham Radios – Broader range and emergency networks. Requires License.

  • Meshtastic Radios – Work without cell service using mesh networks. Text messaging.

  • Shortwave Radios – Tune into global weather, news, and emergency broadcasts.

Keep your P.A.C.E. Plan in mind:

  • Primary: Cell phone

  • Alternate: GMRS / Meshtastic

  • Contingency: Ham radio

  • Emergency: Shortwave radio or satellite

4. Community Alert Systems

Sign up for local alert services through your county or city’s emergency management office. These send alerts via text or email during emergencies.

5. Weather Watch Groups

Form small networks with neighbors or your church community to keep each other informed. You may catch what others miss.

🙏 Spiritual Side: Listening to God's Guidance

All the technology in the world can only take us so far. The greatest alert system we have is the Holy Spirit. When we walk closely with God, He warns, leads, and prepares us—even when it doesn’t make sense in the natural.

1. Know God’s Voice

Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice” (John 10:27). But we can only recognize His voice by spending time in His Word and in prayer.

  • Stay in daily devotion

  • Don’t ignore the gentle tug on your spirit

  • Write down dreams or nudges you receive—God often speaks through them

2. Move When He Says Move

There are countless testimonies of people who avoided disaster because they obeyed a nudge from the Lord. Whether it’s to take shelter earlier than expected or check on a neighbor—obey quickly.

3. Stay in Peace, Not Panic

While alerts and warnings can cause anxiety, the Spirit of God offers peace.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

Storms will come. But Warriors don’t run in fear—they move in faith and wisdom.

Be Alert in All Things

As God’s Prepared Warriors, we stand on two pillars: Practical Preparation and Spiritual Discernment. Both are critical in staying ready for whatever life throws our way.

Stay informed with tools. Stay aligned with God. Be watchful—but not afraid. The world may shake, but you are rooted in the unshakable truth that God is your refuge.

So Warriors, download those apps, check your radios, and most importantly—open your ears to the Lord’s still small voice.

He sees what’s ahead. And He’s already made a way.
