Zechariah 4:10, "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand."
In a world that celebrates instant success and overnight achievements, it’s easy to feel discouraged when starting small. Whether it’s a new journey in faith, preparing your household for uncertain times, or stepping into a new calling, beginnings often feel insignificant. But God sees things differently. He rejoices when we take that first step, trusting Him with the outcome.
Zechariah 4:10 reminds us that small beginnings are not a sign of weakness but a foundation for something greater. When Zerubbabel was rebuilding the temple, the task seemed overwhelming. The foundation must have looked unimpressive to many, but God assured His people that He rejoiced in the work that had begun.
As God’s Prepared Warriors, we may feel our efforts are too small—whether it’s setting aside emergency provisions, learning new skills, or simply deepening our faith. But just as a tiny seed grows into a mighty tree, God blesses the small steps we take in obedience. He doesn’t expect perfection from us; He desires faithfulness.
Think about how Jesus started with just a few disciples, how David faced Goliath with only a sling, or how a boy’s small lunch fed thousands. God specializes in using the little to accomplish much. What He asks from us is to remain diligent, to trust His timing, and to keep moving forward, no matter how small our progress may seem.
Let's Pray
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that small beginnings are valuable in Your eyes. Help me to trust that every step I take in faith, no matter how small, is seen and blessed by You. Give me strength to persevere, wisdom to follow Your guidance, and patience to wait for the harvest. Let my efforts, no matter how simple, be used for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
