The Role of Technology in Prepping

Technology has become a vital part of our daily lives. From cell phones to GPS, radios to online resources, it seems we have a tool or an app for just about everything. For us as God’s Prepared Warriors, this raises an important question: How much should we depend on technology in our preparedness journey? The answer lies in balance—using these tools wisely, without placing our ultimate trust in them.

Practical Side of Technology in Prepping

On the practical level, technology can give us a serious advantage in an emergency:

  • Communication Tools – GMRS, HAM, and mesh radios allow us to stay connected when cell towers fail.

  • Navigation – GPS apps and offline maps can help us find safe routes.

  • Information – Weather alerts, survival guides, and emergency notifications are often just a click away.

  • Power Solutions – Solar chargers and battery banks can keep essential devices running when the grid is down.

These tools are gifts, and they can make the difference between being prepared and being caught off guard. However, technology also has its limits: batteries die, signals fade, and systems can fail. This is why wise preppers train with both technology and low-tech solutions like map reading, compass navigation, and face-to-face communication.

Spiritual Side of Technology in Prepping

While tools and gadgets can give us confidence, we must remember: our ultimate source of strength is not technology, but God. Scripture reminds us, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God” Psalm 20:7.

Technology may assist us in the storm, but it cannot calm our hearts. Only Christ can do that. If we lean too heavily on devices, we risk forgetting the One who holds the future.

Instead, we should view technology as just another instrument in God’s toolbox—useful, but never a replacement for prayer, faith, and dependence on His guidance.

As God’s Prepared Warriors, let’s use the tools of technology with wisdom and humility. Keep your radios, chargers, and apps ready, but also sharpen your low-tech skills. And above all, keep your faith anchored in the Lord, not in your devices. In every storm, God remains our strongest signal, our clearest direction, and our most reliable power source.

Remember: Be wise with technology but rely fully on God. He alone is our refuge and strength.
