Why Should I Prep?

A Christian Perspective on Preparedness in a Troubled World

In recent years, the world has shifted dramatically. We’ve witnessed increasing natural disasters, food shortages, civil unrest, power outages, and global instability. From pandemics to wars and economic uncertainty, our world feels more fragile than ever before. For many believers, this raises a crucial question: Should Christians prepare for what’s coming?

The short answer is yes. Not out of fear, but out of wisdom. Prepping isn’t about paranoia—it’s about prudence. It’s about being ready to care for your family and serve others when crisis strikes. More importantly, it’s about listening to God’s guidance and living out our faith with eyes wide open and hands ready to work.

1. Practical Reasons to Prep: Stewardship and Responsibility

The Bible doesn’t speak against preparation. In fact, Proverbs 21:20 tells us:

“The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.”

Preparedness is about stewardship. God has given us resources and insight—not to hoard, but to steward wisely. Just like Joseph prepared Egypt for seven years of famine (Genesis 41), we too are called to discern the times and act accordingly.

In today’s world, supply chains can collapse in days, power grids can fail, and access to food and clean water can vanish in a heartbeat. Preparing doesn’t mean you distrust God—it means you're using the wisdom He’s already given you.

2. Spiritual Reasons to Prep: Obedience and Readiness

Jesus warned us to stay awake and be ready—not just for His return, but also for deception and tribulation before it. Matthew 24:44 says:

“So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.”

Prepping is an act of obedience. As God’s Prepared Warriors, we’re not called to sit idly by while the world crumbles—we’re called to be light in the darkness, salt to a tasteless world, and ready vessels for God’s work.

In our roundtables and devotionals, we’ve discussed growing spiritual deception, like individuals claiming to be sent by God—wolves in sheep’s clothing (Matthew 7:15). We’ve talked about violence in our cities, including shootings, bombings, and increasing unrest. We’ve talked about food insecurity, weather-related disasters, and rising lawlessness.

These aren’t reasons to panic—they’re signs to be aware and spiritually alert. The enemy is working, but so is God—and He’s calling His people to stand ready, physically and spiritually.

3. Prepping as Ministry

Being prepared positions you to serve. If a disaster strikes, will your neighbors see panic—or provision? Fear—or faith?

When you have extra food, medical supplies, or knowledge in survival skills, you have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ. Prepping allows you to minister in moments of crisis, sharing not only physical resources but the hope of the gospel.

Our mission isn't just survival—it's revival.

Prepping, for the Christian, is both a practical and spiritual discipline. It’s about loving our families well, stewarding what God has given us, staying alert to the signs of the times, and being ready to serve when the world needs hope the most.

Jesus Himself said, “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore, be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16).

We’re not called to live in fear—we’re called to live in faith, with wisdom, vigilance, and a heart that beats for God’s glory in every season.

So why should you prep? Because the world is changing, but our mission remains the same: to be ready, to be faithful, and to be a light. Stay Vigilant, Stay Prepared!
